REFOSCO DAL PEDUNCOLO ROSSO, OUR INDIGENOUS RED WINE
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso
Refosco is an indigenous wine in Friuli. These grapes were grown here at the times of ancient Romans dominating this land from Aquileia.
It was almost fully substituted at the beginning of last century with the more resistant Merlot, of French origin. But it has been rediscovered in the last decades in search of local biodiversity.
Its is not an easy wine to make. Its small tannins tend to precipitate in the barrel in the early phases of vinification. But in the good years this wine becomes remarkably interesting for its dark colour and its acidity, higher as compared to other international red wines. The original perfumes of grapes are kept thanks to vinification in steel, with no contact with wood.
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is a clone typical of our Aquileia DOC area, most enjoyable with beef and also fat fishes, just because of its slight acidity. A historical wine still cultivated only in Friuli, with a limited production, that is being known and appreciated more and more in several world markets.
Its full name is difficult to say in English. You can be made easier just buy calling it simply Refosco or Refosco DPR.
